Yoga Therapy
Yoga therapy is the adaptation and application of yoga techniques and practices to support individuals facing specific health challenges. It helps clients to manage their condition, reduce symptoms, improve attitude and restore balance.
WHAT TO EXPECT
Yoga therapy sessions are different from regular yoga classes in being specifically tailored to benefit a client’s individual health issue. They can take the form of a private one-to-one class or a therapeutic group session, in each case the yoga techniques are carefully chosen to offer the client relief from their physical and/or mental condition and address them as a whole.
Throughout the process the client will be compassionately guided in the practice of self-care.
Yoga therapy does not require any level of fitness and is accessible to everyone. Practice may include breathing techniques, yoga postures, deep relaxation, meditation and other techniques.
The initial session comprises a comprehensive consultation to ascertain a clear picture of the person’s health issues, needs, goals, physical abilities and energy levels. Lifestyle, interests, and personality will also be considered and factored in. Based on this, a practice will then be designed to specifically support the individual’s requirements.
In order to get the best results from yoga therapy the client should be prepared to commit to a level of home practice in their own time. In follow-up sessions progress will be then assessed and discussed, with practice adjusted and revised as necessary to suit the client’s situation and needs.
